5 Key Pieces For Your Kid’s Spring Wardrobe

Emily Jenkinson's wish list for this spring

Spring has arrived! The recent sunshine and milder temperatures persuaded my nearly-three-year-old to ditch, temporarily, the ‘sockies’ that she has been wedded to night and day for the last six months and run around barefoot in our local sandpit.

It was great to see her feet.

Next job is to persuade her to discard her favourite jeans (she cries every time I insist they go in the wash) and adopt a more spring-like attire.

With this in mind, here are some key high street pieces to snap up for your child’s new spring wardrobe.

A warning: yellow features. A lot.

A zingy-springy pair of trousers for your boy

There aren’t many times in a man’s life when he will be able to get away with lemon yellow or turquoise blue trousers. If he is under 10, now is the moment. Seize it and bring some spring, both to his step and the world around him. (He may or may not thank you later.)

A ditsy-print dress for your girl

Trotters has embraced the ditsy print for spring 2017 with its collection of girls’ dresses and tops. This cutesey cotton Yoshi Smocked Dress in a whimsical Liberty Print features birds, deer and rabbits against a pretty coral background.

Parents of Tom Boys: good luck.

A fisherman’s cape for those April showers

As it becomes too warm for jackets, don’t get caught out by an April shower with this bright, breezy and hugely practical fisherman’s cape from JoJo Maman Bébé, which is cotton-lined for comfort and cosiness and easily packed away when the sun comes out again.

A hard-wearing spring playsuit for your crawler

Bring some spring to playtime for the crawler in your life with this pretty floral jersey outfit from Boden. It has a supersoft sueded finish making it gentle to wear but tough enough to handle plenty of crawling. So a thumbs up all round, then.

A sweatshirt with Tweety for your little sweetie

Bye-bye winter’s woolly jumpers, hello light spring sweatshirts.

This primrose yellow number featuring Disney’s Tweety could be carried off by girl or boy, bringing a welcome dash of sunshine to the playground.
