Our Favourite Bold Prints This Spring

Scandinavian minimalism has dominated the interior design scene so far this century, and patterns and florals have been somewhat sidelined.

But if you’re bored of hygging in tasteful beige environments, then you’ll be pleased to hear that big, noisy prints are making a making a comeback, and they’re not just for children’s rooms.

Here are a few of our favourites.

House of Hackney has breathed new life into statement prints with its XL florals, in-your-face botanicals, and art-deco animal prints. These can be seen on its wallpapers, fabrics, furniture, homewares and even clothing, (just in case you want to camouflage yourself and play hide and seek). Not for the faint hearted.

Galapagos was set up a few years ago by husband and wife duo Lucy and Phil Mortimer, after Lucy couldn’t find anyone to reupholster a small 1950s chair she had her heart set on. Their original cocktail chairs tick the boxes for quirky mid-century designs, bright colours and bold prints.

If big prints make you nervous and you’re not ready to commit, cushions and accessories are a great place to start. August Place on Etsy offers a fantastic range of bold geometric patterns with a slight art deco vibe printed on a neutral linen background.

Ikea’s collaboration with Dutch designer Piet Hein Eek has just hit the shops, and sees it straying from its Scandi roots with an explosion of colourful printed fabrics and ceramics, inspired by traditional Indonesian and Vietnamese crafts.

Large prints needn’t shout, as Molly Mahon’s beautiful block-print designs prove. The Suxxex-based printmaker is inspired by India and she has applied her block to everything from wallpaper and fabrics to lampshades and stationery.
