We Love: smocked children’s clothing from Rachel Riley

A Prince George favourite, with an exclusive 10% off for readers...

Ever since Prince George was snapped rocking a pair of Rachel Riley dungarees while on a Royal Tour of New Zealand in 2014, the profile of this classy children’s wear brand has sky-rocketed internationally. Featuring beautifully made clothing, shoes and accessories for newborns and children up to age 14, the Rachel Riley range is characterised by its colourful designs and patterns and traditional cuts – perfect for a little prince or princess.

There is a broad range and lots to tempt here, but it’s the smocked designs (also beloved by Prince George) that we’ve really fallen for. Nostalgic, comfortable and a reminder of one or two of our own favourite party dresses as youngsters – on which subject: Happy 90th Birthday to the Queen!

Here are some of our favourite smocked designs:

Smocked shirt and short set, £85Screen Shot 2016-04-21 at 15.50.10

One of the little outfits worn by Prince George, this traditional two-piece is hand-smocked across the chest with a vintage inspired design. The matching red shorts with button opening at the side also button onto the shirt for a more formal look. Tea with the Queen, anyone?

Smocked check dress, £1196812

Like the smocked dresses of our 80s childhood! This traditional hand-smocked dress with a sweet peter-pan collar and gathered skirt comes complete with a button-back opening with pearl effect button and sash to tie. Princess Charlotte, eat yer heart out.

Sailboat smocked dungarees, £753996

As worn by Prince George himself, these adorable classic tailored dungarees in navy cotton also come in a soldier design. Simply heaven.

Cupcake smocked babysuit, was £796600

Cupcakes and pink smocking combined in a sweet little newborn babysuit – we’re in broody mama heaven. A lovely gift for a new arrival, this design is beautifully finished with contrast piping and pearl effect buttons – with a co-ordinating cupcake applique cardigan available to complete the look.

Bow smocked sleeveless dress, £957263

We like the black and white colours of this bow smocked sleeveless dress, which brings a little contemporary style into this most traditional of dresses for little girls. Very sweet and very smart.
