Of course, there are plenty of wonderful boys clothing shops on the high street. There’s GAP, H&M, Joules, Zara to name but a few, but here we bring you our top ten boys clothes shops online; some small family startups, others established treasure troves of designer clothes.
FIVE BOYS CLOTHING
FIVE BOYS CLOTHING is on a mission ‘to smash the illusion that shopping for boys is difficult,’ say co-founders Taffeta and Sophia. This inspired site sells gifts and clothes from different brands for boys aged 3-15. ‘We source clothing that both boys and mums will love.’ They have six children between them and have operated the online shop since 2014. You can shop by age, by clothing or by brand making life far too easy for the shoppers. They have just launched their own series of endangered animal organic t-shirts. One pound of every t-shirt sold goes to Arkive, the world’s largest online encyclopaedia about the natural world that helps support conservation organisations across the globe. We like the cheetah and poison dart frog.
Lest you forget, boys love to run free and get muddy. Let them do so in relaxed clothing. Catapult Clothing specialises in brightly coloured t-shirts, hoodies, hats and bags for 5-16 year olds, all in striking and simple designs. Founders Lettice Hagan and Federica Medina, who have six boys between them, set up shop in 2014. This summer, Catapult Clothing are making the move towards sustainability and fairtrade and have started a collaboration with a company which is 100% organic. ’We have wanted to do this since the start without affecting the cost of the t-shirt,’ says Lettice. Bring it on.
PANDA & PING
Sleepwear is a great excuse to let your imagination run wild. No need for any prim or proper sartorial rules when it comes to duvet time. Panda & Ping is a fun children’s bedding and sleepwear company that has won many awards since its conception two years ago. Designed by Newbury-based Pippa Millington, the Panda & Ping products are made (in Britain) using 100% OEKO Tex cotton jersey to ensure a soft, snuggly bedtime. Special shoutout to the unisex bright orange and yellow dancing giraffe pyjamas.
Whether your boys are flying down the ski slopes, climbing trees, playing bat and ball or snuggled up on the sofa, St.Berts clothes will do the job, in style. Ben and his wife Sarah Godwin set up the site in 2014 to create cool, comfortable cotton children’s clothing in looks that wouldn’t date. We love the retro-inspired designs with neon trims and stripes. Take note of the athletic looking shorts, Sherpa hoodies and summer PJs.
LALA AND BEA
If you’re a parent with a sense of humour, you need to scroll over to Lala and Bea, a UK-based ethical family lifestyle brand. We love Lala & Bea for their utterly brilliant Dragon and Mother of Dragons sweaters, and also the Mama Bear, Papa Bear, bear cub sweaters. In addition to the Merino clothes and blankets, there is the Lala & Bea Organic Family Skincare that has no parabens, and where possible, uses ingredients grown in the UK.
Your boys might be rugged and hardy but they’ll love to be dressed in soft, hand-knitted Alpaca knitwear from Waddler. Their joyful designs, made by artisans in the mountains of Bolovia are both practical and beautiful for children and babies. The knitters receive fair wages (more than three times the minimum wage) enabling them to send their children to school and improve living conditions. Don’t let all the girls have the fun; boys love to rock the star jumper, Gypsy Pierrot jumper with ruffled collar and the harlequin trousers. Scroll about the site and you’ll stumble upon their bedroom range; we love the toy wolf, toy crocodile and striped blankets with tassles.
